It's A Dog's Life

From employment workshops to the gym, Kohls, the grocery store, Starbucks, the dog park and SO MUCH MORE, it is the dog's life for Gabor. He's a quick learner according to his puppy raisers and we couldn't be more proud! He is slated for placement with a Vietnam veteran who resides in Seattle this fall. We've got big plans to host a celebration at Delta Society's headquarters, sharing the experience with the staff members there.

April's Fool Fun Run Fun

April's Fool Fun Run Fun, Run, Fun, Run.

Can I say that?

Paws & Effect hosted the spring "April's Fool Fun Run" this weekend at Canine Craze in West Des Moines. As seen in the video, Tag, a service dog, ran a clean Tunnelers run. I had never run Tag through an agility course. I must say he is fast but I am faster!

April's Fool Fun Run

What are you doing this weekend?

Well, Paws & Effect's Annual April's Fool Fun Run has snuck up on us.

When is it? Funny you should ask.

It's this weekend! April 17, 2010. We are accepting "Day of" entries but our preference is early entries.

This is an indoor Fun Run at Canine Craze's dog training center. Let's see you there!

Airport Crew!

The Paws & Effect service dogs took to the skies in an effort to learn all that they can learn. We actually only took to the plane that was parked on the tarmac. The dogs took in the sounds, smells, textures, noises, sights and a whole lot more of traveling through the airport, through security screening, up and down escalators and elevators, stairs and ultimately up and into a plane.

But that's not all. They also figured out how to lure the flight crew into giving us all cookies! OK, so only the handlers got the fresh baked cookies that they whipped up at 26,000 feet but the dogs had their treats too.

The training session was a success. Congratulations Tag, Keeper, Gabor, Fyero, and Czar. You all did spectacularly!

Thank you to Air Midwest for providing us the plane and all the accommodations.

Family Series - Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"

Another journey to the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines, this time it held their Family Series - Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" discovery party and live performance. Six of our Pet Partner teams participated in the reading event. The chaos of 1,700 people was controlled to a dull roar. The kids loved the stories of Eric Carle and lapped up the dogs that were there.
Another fun filled event. After the discovery was over several of the dog teams attended the live performance of The Hungry Caterpillar performed by the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia under black light.

Bravo to part two of the Civic Centers Family Series. Looking forward to the next one now.

Out & About

Who's gonna win the stare down? Gabor the service dog or Old Navy's mannequin dog?

Taken by storm!

Gabor and Tag took Wells Fargo areana by BarnStorm. They watched Des Moines AFLs team, tge Barnstormers, season opener. They did well through the pyrotechniques and the heart thumping music and even during some of the football action but before the end they wanted to go home.
